New Products: Cells, Bundles, and Forces

Here are the latest and greatest wrapping up the cells activities for MS-LS1 and the new activities for MS-PS2 activities.

Cells

  1. MS-LS1-7 Fermentation Class Demonstration Lab: The fermentation demonstration lab uses yeast to demonstrate how the organism releases energy from sugar and creating carbon dioxide, similar to cellular respiration. The lab will be completed in one class period. Background in cellular respiration is best for the completion of the lab.
  2. MS-LS1-8 Five Senses Project: Students will take the role of teacher as they research how one of the five senses works with the nervous system and what happens when there is a disease. They will create a lesson with a worksheet and activity for their classmates to complete.
Forces

  1. MS-PS2-1 Egg Carton Redesign using Newton's Third LawThis eggcellent activity uses eggs to demonstrate Newton's Third Law of Motion. Students design an egg carton to protect the egg from a collision with the floor. After testing their design, they will examine the class results and redesign their egg carton. At the end, students complete a CER using Newton's third law in their explanation.
  2. MS-PS2-2 Sole Friction Using Newton's First Law of MotionStudents examine how friction and gravity play a role in the design of shoe soles (Newton's First Law of Motion). They research friction, design soles, test a sole, and improve their designs over two class periods. Students conclude their findings with two conclusion questions and a claim-evidence-reasoning on the best design.
  3. MS-PS2-3 Generator CER- Increasing Electrical ForcesThis claim-evidence-reasoning activity has students examine the electrical output of different made-up generators. They use the data table to identify what increases the electricity (rotations and number of coils).

Bundles
  1. Atoms and Periodic Table Review Games
: This bundle includes two activities over atoms and the periodic table to help students review vocabulary terms on atoms, structure, and periodic trends. The first activity is a vocabulary review for students. The second is a printable escape puzzle room. See below for more details on each product.
  2. MS-LS1: Cells and Body Systems Lab and Activity BundleThese are a bundle of resources created to cover the MS-PLS1 From Molecules to Organisms of NGSS. There are different types of activities included with labs and projects to engage your students over living things, cells, cell structures, cell functions (photosynthesis and fermentation/cellular respiration), adaptations, body systems, and the five senses. Included for all are lists of extra materials needed, teacher's guides, and student handouts.
Coming up next: more activities on forces and motion.

Nitrogen and Carbon Cycle Foldable

I was inspired to create foldables for my 6th graders on the carbon and nitrogen cycles after viewing one created by the blog " The Inspired Classroom ".  She had created a much cuter one for the water cycle.  Please forgive my pictures, descriptions, and handwriting. :)     If you would like a free copy of the nitrogen foldable or carbon foldable , you can find it at My Teachers Pay Teachers.

Biomes Foldable

I had way too much fun making this.  My students are going to be learning about these biomes next and I created this example of the finished product and one with the pictures/words without the cuts.  I photocopied the sheet and shrunk it to 75%.  The students will cut it out, fold down the extra space on the left side, and glue it in their notebooks.  Underneath each tab, they will write characteristics of the biomes. I am clearly on a foldable kick!  Thank you snow days. :) I did create a digital version of this for you to download on my Teacher Pay Teachers. It's free!

Rubric Maker

I am a huge fan of project-based learning! As a result, I create lots of rubrics. Sometimes I write them myself and other times, I like to find premade ones to help me clarify the assessment piece. A co-worker in Colorado introduced me to Rubistar  years back. It's free and pretty user-friendly. They have several premade categories and criteria, but you can alter them to fit your needs. The website is old, but don't let that throw you off.
